I heard a joke not long ago that over time in my head has evolved into an SBM joke, so I thought I’d share…
School employees were asked what the second most important role in the school was.
The Classroom Teacher said “The Teacher”.
The Caretaker said “The Caretaker”
The Attendance Officer said “The Attendance Officer”
The SBM said “The Headteacher”
OK, so I wouldn’t be quite so arrogant to claim to have the most important job in the school, but I do think it illustrates a point.
As SBMs we need to be assertive, we need to (at least look like we) know what we’re doing, we need to (give the impression that we) have all the answers, we need to be able to motivate, inspire and encourage. In short we need to be able to reassure those around us just by our attitude and demeanour that we have it all under control.
And if we don’t? We still need to have the chutzpah to go out there and exude SBM confidence and conviction.
So please excuse my (possibly) controversial and (probably) unfunny joke but it made me smile today, it makes me stand a little bit taller and it inspires me to get on with my job!
Got any good jokes?
